Exploratory Pressure Impregnation Process Using Supercritical CO2, Co-Solvents, and Multi-Cycle Implementation

Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is extensively used for extracting chemicals from materials, but the impregnation of materials with using scCO2 has received little attention in comparison. To best our knowledge, most technologies described literature operate by principle diffusion, where yield limited solubility. The objective this exploratory study to prove feasibility an process that can extract solutes one material and release them into another through a single extraction/impregnation stage be applied cycles increase yield. concept was proven laboratory radiata pine bark wax as solute wood impregnated material. Extraction/impregnation tests were performed at temperatures between 40 60 °C, pressures 12 16 MPa, addition ethanol acetone co-solvents. demonstrated multi-cycle wood, novelty implementation traditional pressure methods.
